Guy Laliberté
Guy Laliberté

Guy Laliberté was born in Quebec, Canada in 1959. As a young man, he dreamed of founding a circus company. He honed a variety of skills and began his career as a street performer.Cirque du Soleil was actually founded in 1984, when Guy Laliberté presented a proposal for a show by the same name to a board in Quebec that was organizing celebrations surrounding the 450th anniversary of Jacques Cartier’s arrival in Canada.

Already a multitalented artist, Guy Laliberté quickly dove into the world of show business and managed to convince financial institutions to back the Cirque du Soleil project, winning them over with originality and the audacity of youth. He also developed a network of partners around the world to help the young company known as Cirque du Soleil make a name for itself abroad.

In recognition of his achievements, Guy Laliberté received the 2007 Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year award. He was selected from among 39 contestants, all of whom had already been named Entrepreneurs Of The Year in their home countries.

In 2004, he received the Order of Canada, the highest distinction in the country, from the Governor General of Canada. That same year, he was recognized by Times Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. These are just a few of the many awards and recognitions he has received to date.

"Silk," his latest work, took place and is scheduled for release in Japan as the Tokyo International Film Festival closing film. Line Tremblay
Line Tremblay Director of Creation

Since 1984, Line Tremblay has worked as a creator of Cirque du Soleil shows, including Mystère, Alegría, Quidam, "O" and La Nouba. When she worked on Corteo, she was named the first woman in Cirque’s history to occupy the position of Director of Creation. Her job is to produce a synergy and create an atmosphere of unity within the creative team. To top it off, Line takes part in recruiting team members and plays an active role in casting artists. In her role of bringing consistency and synergy to the creative team and overseeing the meshing of members’ individual artistic approach, Line compares her position to that of an orchestra conductor.
